Wedding Songs – The First Dance
After the formalities of the reception are over it is time to get the party started. This is the time when you can truly relax and mingle with your family and friends. It is also the point of the day when you take the floor as man and wife and treat your guests to your first dance to your favorite wedding songs.
If you have organized live music or a DJ then your guests will expect you to take to the dance floor first before they do. Until this happens it is likely that the party really won’t get going. However, for some couples being in the limelight in this fashion is decidedly uncomfortable, unfortunately for you, it has to be done.
Here are a few tips to help you get over your shyness or deal with your two left feet!
Pick your songs: You may have already decided on a particular song for your first dance. Every couple has a song that holds particular meaning to them or which they just love to dance to. Your first dance is traditionally to a slow love song, however, in recent times couples have pushed the boundaries and gone for something totally different. Make sure your DJ or band are primed and ready with the right song, and make sure they do not start it until you are both entirely ready to take to the dance floor. Make sure the track they play is not a remix or remake of the wedding song you want.
Practice: It isn’t essential to practice your moves first but if you are nervous or concerned about your dancing then it can be a good idea. Try to set aside a few evenings together to practice at home or if you really want to trip the light fantastic then have some ballroom dancing lessons.
Relax: Dancing in front of a crowd can be difficult at the best of times, so it is important that you take steps to relax. Loosen your wedding finery, such as ties, veils and headdresses so that nothing is constricting your movement. For brides it is important that they can dance in their wedding shoes, so if needed purchase a second pair which are comfortable for dancing in.
Get your friends to join in: If you really don’t want to dance the entire song on your own then ask around the other members of the wedding party and close friends to join you on the dance floor. All you need to do is take a few steps on your own at the start of the song and then have your friends join you. This is also a good way to get everyone up and onto the dance floor and get the party started.
